"I would say it is almost possible that in equivalent condition E46 is cheaper which once again leaves the E36 in a rather odd position."

Performance

4.0/56 of 6 reviewersstrong consensus

not particularly powerful with just 240 horsepower but the nice thing is very linear torque curve

Zygrene · ▶ 3:28

there's good torque oh yeah this is fun after the head gas good job I think it had a little more power across the band but especially in the mid-range

positive · TheTopher · ▶ 11:43

when you do, you're rewarded with a wonderfully mechanical symphony from the front end.

Handling

4.0/56 of 6 reviewersconsensus

It's hard to convey all the the feedback and communication that I'm getting and how supple this chassis is. This is a pretty bumpy, rough road that we're on right now and it is just eating it up beautifully.

positive · TheTopher · ▶ 3:46

the front end is really willing to turn um you know partly because the steering is so quick but it doesn't feel labored when you're on on Corner entry

positive · Zygrene · ▶ 13:34

You feel like you need to turn the wheel at least 50% more to do anything. However, once you adjust to it, you realize there is just that little bit more information coming through it.

Fun to drive

4.5/56 of 6 reviewersconsensus

This is the tightest, nicest BMW driver's car I think I've ever experienced.

positive · TheTopher · ▶ 6:01

this car is honestly exhilarating to drive

positive · Zygrene · ▶ 11:58

It's a car that you can push harder and in fact it encourages you to do so with that linear smooth engine.

it's actually very very comfortable very refined

positive · Zygrene · ▶ 3:09

you could still daily one of these if you wanted to. No trouble at all. Or you could keep it for high days, holidays, and have a bit of fun when you fancied.

Value

4.0/56 of 6 reviewerssplit

honestly I think 10 grand is steel for one of these

positive · Zygrene · ▶ 18:08

I'd say at 10K for the bones of this car, the base, you know, the the car plus the manual transmission, I think that is excellent value.

positive · Jubbal & Cars · ▶ 9:51

I would say it is almost possible that in equivalent condition E46 is cheaper which once again leaves the E36 in a rather odd position.
